Sassafras, aka Sassafras Albidum, is a distinctive flavor once known as a major ingredient in root beer. Although no longer used commercially in beverages, Sassafras continues to be employed by herbalists for its beneficial properties and was traditionally used by indigenous people of eastern North America. Sometimes spelled sassafrass, the aromatic root bark can be used in infusions or prepared for topical applications.
